The Freight Club was founded in November 1998 by a group of independent freight forwarders as a non-profit, member-driven organization with the primary objective of bringing together like-minded companies and individuals from all over the world.

The Freight Club looks to stimulate networking between members, establishing and developing mutually beneficial business solutions, while safeguarding the interests of its members.

The Board of Directors supports a non-exclusivity policy that encourages continual membership growth and promotes communal access to global trade routes and worldwide partnerships.

The Freight Club is driven by top professional standards and places the spirit of co-operation at its core. Backed up by our stellar international reputation we strive to build long-lasting professional relationships between clients and provide a first-rate freight forwarding service.

The Freight Club started off as a group of like-minded individuals coming together to share knowledge and experience of the international freight forwarding industry.

Our goal has always been to foster and stimulate mutually beneficial relationships between members using a non-profit business model and to promote communal access to global trade routes and worldwide partnerships.

This has been the foundation on which The Freight Club has built its reputation and will remain at the core of how we do business.

Board of Directors

Mr. Sean Sandford, President

Sandford Freight (United Kingdom)

Read Biography

Sean has worked in the Freight Forwarding Industry for over 40 years. He formed Sandford Freight Limited in Ireland in 1973 and then Sandford Freight UK in London Heathrow in 1998.

Sean is a former President of the Irish International Freight Association and an honorary Fellow of the Association. He also was a President of the Irish Air Cargo Institute, Former board member of the local Chamber of Commerce, and past member of the Turkish /Irish business association . He also served a term as District Governor for Ireland for Lions International.

Sean is married has 4 children and 2 grandchildren, and in his spare time he enjoys boating, golfing and is a keen philatelist.

Mr Doug Carlson, Director

Branson International (Canada)

Read Biography

Doug started in the industry in his early 20’s at Burlington Air Express working on their overnight package service.

At 27, Doug was recruited to SCAC Transport for a Sales position which lasted 3 months until he was offered the Branch Manager position. In 1996, Doug setup Branson International Inc.

Doug learned that running a company is not only driven by bottom line results but relationships with customers, vendors, agents etc. which led to the success he has had at Branson and their 2004 expansion to Vancouver BC.

Branson provide general freight forwarding services and for the last 10 years have been very involved in the mining and special projects industry.

Doug and Branson international are members of IATA, CIFFA, FIATA and are an Approved Participant with Transport Canada.

Branson employ 12 people which they plan to expand in the very near future.

Mr John Sampson, Director

New Direx (United States)

John Sampson founded New Direx, Inc. in 1993 where he owns and operates the business from his New York office. New Direx specializes in concierge freight forwarding and customs brokerage. The company has its OTI, IATA and customs brokerage licenses. The greatest strength of the company is in its worldwide network of agents. John expanded the business in 2005 by opening an office and warehouse in Los Angeles, California.

New Direx handles diverse items such as liquid helium, high-value, time-sensitive electronics, entertainment cargo, specialty steel, designer clothing and much more.

John is married to Julie and they have two children. In his spare time John enjoys running, hiking, sushi and Big 10 NCAA collegiate wrestling.

Roy Ternent, Director

Logix Solutions (PTY) LTD (South Africa)

Age: 52 , Married ,3 Children

Was Born in Vereeniging and Raised in Benoni until being sent to boarding school at the age of 12 to Kimberley Boys High School where I took part in a number of Sporting and Extramural activities. Passed Matric with exemption in 1982: Joined Safmarine as a Deck Officer and completed 6 years, my last position of 2nd Navigation Mate. Joined Shell Oil Company and spent the next 8 years as a Shipping and Manufacturing representative and then a Coastal Manager in Advertising and Promotions for Shell, during which time I studied further and obtained my Advanced Business Program Diploma. I took an active part in Round Table where I Held most portfolio positions until being the youngest South Coast Chairman in 1995. I Started and ran an Advertising Agency in Johannesburg “Troy Universal”, before re-entering the shipping world and started Logix Solutions “We move freight … Whatever it takes!… which has been in operation for 14 years. I am currently the Managing director of the Business, which operates in Air , Sea, Road and warehouse Logistics. I have achieved a number of extramural Challenges in Sport, I am a Golfer, Completed the Comrades Marathon and two oceans, Climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, Sailed the Cape to Uruguay Yacht race, Completed my Life Saving Award and compete at National level, holding a current National record for the 100m Obstacle race age 50 to 55. I have achieved my 1st Dan in Tenshenkan Style Karate a well as Hiked the Otter and Whale Trails in SA. My personal Hobby is travelling and experiencing as many different cultures as possible. So far I have visited over 50 Countries worldwide. My goal and motivation is after taking care of my family and friends is “I Live Life whatever it takes”
